Controller
Your Impact:
- Lead all day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, state and federal regulations, and Umpqua Health’s internal policies.
- Prepare and oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
- Own the annual budget process and support multi-year financial planning efforts.
- Monitor internal controls and develop processes to minimize financial risk and strengthen audit readiness.
- Coordinate and lead the annual external audit process, liaising with auditors and preparing required documentation.
- Develop and maintain accounting policies and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and regulatory compliance.
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, ensuring timely close cycles, high accuracy, and professional development.
- Provide financial modeling and forecasting support to the CFO and executive team for strategic initiatives.
- Collaborate with program and department leaders to ensure financial alignment with contract and grant requirements.
- Ensure accurate reconciliation and oversight of the organization’s restricted and unrestricted funds, including state program funding, grants, and capital initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management to help drive our Vision, fulfill our Mission, and abide by our Organization’s Values.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s degree preferred. An equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license required.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a Controller or Assistant Controller-level role.
- Demonstrated experience leading audits, managing financial close processes, and maintaining internal controls.
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and healthcare or nonprofit financial regulations.
- Proficiency with accounting systems (such as Sage Intacct), Excel, and financial data tools like BizInsight.
- Experience in managing budgets, developing forecasts, and preparing financial statements and reports.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to clearly present financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
- High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
- Experience in managed care, Medicaid, grant accounting, or multi-entity organizational structures is strongly preferred.
