Accounting Specialist
The Accounting Specialist at Umpqua Health plays a key role on the Finance team, supporting the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable transactions and maintaining strong financial controls. This position is responsible for reviewing and reconciling invoices, preparing payments, resolving discrepancies, and ensuring vendor records are accurate and up to date. The role requires a high level of attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment. Success in this position contributes to smooth financial operations and supports the organization’s mission to deliver high-quality, cost-effective healthcare services.
Your Impact:
- Review, match, and process a high volume of invoices and payment requests with accuracy, ensuring proper documentation, coding, and alignment with company policies before routing for approval.
- Execute weekly payment cycles by preparing check runs, initiating ACH and EFT transactions, and confirming that all vendor payments are processed and delivered on time.
- Build and maintain organized vendor records by updating contact information, tracking contract terms, and ensuring compliance with 1099 requirements and tax documentation.
- Serve as the first point of contact for vendor inquiries—resolving payment discrepancies, clarifying billing questions, and fostering positive and professional relationships with external partners.
- Reconcile monthly accounts payable activity, research and resolve outstanding balances, and ensure all transactions are recorded accurately in the general ledger.
- Collaborate with team members during month-end close by preparing detailed aging reports, analyzing variances, and supporting journal entry adjustments as needed.
- Coordinate with internal departments to clarify purchasing details, confirm receipt of goods/services, and resolve issues related to invoice mismatches or budget constraints.
- Maintain organized and audit-ready financial files by managing both digital and paper records in accordance with document retention policies and audit protocols.
- Support the Finance team during external and internal audits by gathering requested documentation, responding to auditor inquiries, and ensuring compliance with applicable regulations.
- Actively identify inefficiencies in the accounts payable workflow and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, reduce delays, and strengthen internal controls.

Your Credentials:
- Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant work experience will be considered.
- At least 2 years of experience in accounts payable or a similar accounting role.
- Proficient with accounting software and Microsoft Excel; experience with platforms like Sage or QuickBooks is a plus.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in processing and reconciling financial transactions.
- Effective time management and organizational skills; able to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills; able to work well with both internal teams and external vendors.
- Demonstrated integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
